In the North of Romania, in a small town, a community has chosen to treatdeath differently than rest: as a natural thing, with optimism and humor.
Unique in the world, the Merry Cemetery from Sapanta comprises about 800graves whose tombstones were ornamented with naive paintings, depictingevents in the life of the deceased and those bearing the lyrics with humoroustwist. Merry Cemetery i is due to popular artist Stan Ioan Pătraș, who in 1935 had carved the first such cross.
The cemetery has become, over the years, a tourist attraction, hundreds ofthousands of tourists coming here annually to visit this true open-air museum. This documentary makes a foray into the lives of the people in the Castle and intheir cemetery in the world.
